I was born July 21, 1946. I grew up in what is now Hermitage, PA, and graduated from Hickory High School in 1964. I first listened to the great DJs of early rock 'n roll, like Dick Bionde, when I was 10 years old. My first job in radio was part-time at WPIC-AM & FM, in September of 1967. I moved to Meadville in December of 1968, when I was hired to work full-time at WMGW.
After high school I attended Youngstown University (before it became a State school), where I majored in voice at the Dana School of Music. I was a member of the tuba line for the Youngstown University Marching Band, and I play a mean saxophone too.
I married the former Linda Adams on June 14, 1969. We are the proud parents of two wonderful sons, Tom and Bill, and the grandparents of one outstanding grandson, Nicholas.
I began my career in sports broadcasting working as the color man. At WMGW I worked with Jim DiMaria as his color person, and started doing play-by-play on WMGW FM doing county games in 1969. From there I became Sports Director and the Voice of the Bulldogs in early 1970s. I later became the Voice of the Gators and did Allegheny Football and Basketball for almost 12 years. I also broadcast play-by-play for the Youngstown State University Penguin Men and Women Basketball Teams. In the Shenango Valley I became well known for my play-by-play of local football and basketball and baseball games, as well as my call-in weekly sports show on WPIC.
A few years ago I joined the Shenango Valley Chorale under the leadership of Mr. Edgar Groves, my high school music teacher. Mr. Groves is a man whom I admire for his professionalism, talent, enthusiasm, his love for music, and his uncanny ability to inspire young people.
My favorite college team is Penn State. My favorite pro baseball and football teams are the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Pittsburgh Steelers. GO STEELERS!!!!!
I am a past Meadville Jaycee, and with two other gentlemen, Bob Petruso and Ed Miller, co-chaired the Halloween Parade a few years ago (actually, it was quite a few years ago). I am also a past president of the former Vernon Rotary.
What most people don't know about me is that I was a wrestler in high school, and I think I still hold our high school record for being pinned the fastest by the returning state champion in my weight class.
My favorite color is red. I love the music of Janis Joplin and the Rolling Stones. I would love to go to a Stones concert before either Mick Jagger or I die. I don't really have a favorite food, but every meal, other than breakfast, should include a good salad. My favorite beer is Guiness Extra Stout (the Irish really do know how to drink beer). I love snow!!
For the life of me I can't think of doing anything in life other than radio. It's never been a chore to get up and go to work.
